It Happened Again

about

From my social media post:

In recent years I have really tried to not be too outspoken on social media, especially about polarizing issues. But this morning after dropping off Owen at school, I simply couldn't get back to life as normal thinking about what happened in Uvalde, TX yesterday. It's absolutely gutwrenching and it's shameful that this keeps happening.

I definitely don't know the solution, but I damn sure know there is a problem. We need to have the best minds in our country working to fix this as quickly as humanly possible and not just a bunch of politicians and news stations treating it like it's sports. We need real solutions.

So as I do with most strong feeling I need to unpack I wrote it out. I don't care if you listen to it, but I needed to share it because it's the best tool I have to add my voice to the masses demanding solutions.

lyrics

Dammit, it happened again
These kids should still be laughing with their friends
Counting the days until summer begins
But it happened again
When we were kids, we didn’t think about this
Must have been a simpler time
But not as simple as this
It’s not ok to act like there’s no problem that needs fixed

Let’s put away our foolish pride
We can’t become completely desensitized
If we can’t agree that this isn’t alright
Probably don’t deserve to have anything nice

Dammit, it happened again
These kids should still be laughing with their friends
Counting the days until summer begins
But it happened again
When we were kids, we didn’t think about this
Must have been a simpler time
But not as simple as this
It’s not ok to act like there’s no problem that needs fixed

So you’re saying
We can put a man on the moon
But we can’t we fix this
Oh I get it
We only put a man on the moon
Cause there was a war we wanted to win
This happens so much
I know It won’t be long
Before it’s just political fight
But I’m so sick of it
These kids deserve better
I don’t care about your pride

What is freedom
To a child who is trying not to die

Dammit, it happened again
These kids should still be laughing with their friends
Counting down the days until summer begins
But it happened again
